Linkastim: vitamins, amino acids and trace elements for drinking water

The problem

Appetite drops, thirst holds

Placement, transfer, transport, a heatwave, peak lay, weaning: at each of these moments the animal eats less, while its requirements do not drop. Feed formulated for normal intake no longer delivers everything it should.

Water is still drunk, often more of it. It is the route that stays open: a decision taken in the morning is in the house within the hour, on the one flock that needs it, and it stops when the period is over.

The principle

Timing matters more than quantity

Linkastim does not replace the feed: over a few days, it supplies what the feed no longer gets across when intake drops.

  1. Vitamins. To cover requirements while the animal eats less.
  2. Amino acids.Alongside the vitamins, in the same liquid.
  3. Trace elements.Alongside, in the same liquid.

Hot weather

Vitamins in hot weather: when and how to supply them through water?

In hot weather a bird does not sweat, so it pants to shed heat: it drinks more and eats less, and what the feed normally brings in drops with intake. Vitamins supplied in the water keep coming by the route that stays open.

When to give them: the day before a forecast heatwave and during the episode, at transfer, before and after transport, at chick placement. In pig units: around weaning and moves, and in hot weather.

How: in the drinking water, through the dosing pump or the header tank, for a few days. A stock solution made up on the day, water intake followed, and a stop when the period is over. For the sequence before, during and after the heatwave, see heat stress in poultry and pigs.

Poultry

Vitamins for hens and broilers: how to dose them?

For breeders and egg layers, the supply goes in at peak lay: every day the hen deposits part of her vitamins in the egg, and the egg’s content reflects her own status. For broilers, it goes in over transfer or heat periods.

The rate is in the table below, per 1,000 L of drinking water, over 3 to 5 days. The amount for the tank depends on the day’s water intake and on the pump’s injection rate: a technician works it out with you the first time.

At placement, the first seven days decide what follows: see broiler brooding, the first week.

Pigs

Vitamins for pigs and piglets through water: which programme?

At weaning, the piglet changes feed, room and group all at once, and eats little for a few days. With one water line per room, vitamins and amino acids can go to the weaner room alone, without touching the feed. The same logic applies to finishing pigs in hot weather, at transport or around a vaccination.

For pigs, the current technical data sheet gives 0.5–1 L per 1,000 L of water, over 3 to 5 days: at weaning, transport, around a vaccination or in hot weather. We fit the programme with you, according to age and your equipment.

How to use

Prepare, dose, store

Make up the stock solution on the day: some vitamins are sensitive to light. Water at the right pH helps everything you put in it: to acidify it, see Linkacid Prime L. Linkastim is one of our drinking water supplements.

  • Never in the same water as a live vaccine: flush the line, vaccinate, then resume.
  • With another product in the water: check compatibility before combining them; when in doubt, separate them in time.
  • Storage: 24 months, cool, dry and away from light.

Frequently asked questions

Which vitamins matter when intake drops?

Those that intake takes down with it: a feed that is eaten less brings in fewer vitamins, and a laying hen also deposits part of hers in the egg every day. Linkastim supplies vitamins in the water for a few days, by the route that stays open.

Poultry vitamins in the water or in the feed?

Everyday nutrition goes in the feed; corrections go in the water. A feed correction takes a week and commits a whole production batch; a water correction takes an hour and commits a single house.

How long should Linkastim be given?

A few days around the target period, 3 to 5 days according to the technical data sheet, then stop. The course is repeated at the next demanding period.

Can Linkastim be given with a vaccine?

No: never in the same water as a live vaccine. Flush the line, vaccinate as your veterinarian instructs, then resume.
