Linkadry: litter conditioner and drying powder for animal housing

A drier house is easier to run. Linkadry is a litter conditioner: a drying powder of mineral and plant origin, with flavouring substances, spread on litter and house floors to keep moisture and odour down at animal level.

Form
White powder, in two versions: S and Caps
Species
Poultry, pigs, cattle, sheep, horses
Use
Spread on litter or floors, during the flock
Pack
25 kg bag

The problem

Wet litter is costly, and it often starts with the water

Water spilt at the drinkers, badly set nipples, poor ventilation, high stocking density, wetter droppings in hot weather: the litter loads up with water, cakes, ferments and smells. A wet house is harder to run, and the processor sees it: marked feet at slaughter, downgrades.

The first lever is the cause: nipple and water pressure settings, ventilation, bedding. A litter conditioner comes on top, where moisture builds up anyway: under the water lines, behind the sow, in lying areas.

The principle

Absorb moisture, bind odour

Linkadry works on the litter, not on the animal: it keeps the surface where animals lie and walk drier.

  1. It absorbs. The powder takes up moisture at the litter surface, where the animal is in contact with it.
  2. It masks odour. It absorbs; flavouring substances mask litter odour.
  3. Caps releases. The Caps version gradually releases encapsulated essential oils.

Two versions

Linkadry S or Linkadry Caps?

The choice depends on species, type of litter (straw, shavings, slats) and what you are after first: keeping moisture down, or odour in the house as well. We make it with you.

  • Linkadry S: a white powder of mineral and plant origin. It is used for broilers and ducks, on straw or slats, in pig units behind the sow and in the farrowing area, in straw-bedded cattle housing after cleaning out and before bedding, for calves and in sheep houses.
  • Linkadry Caps: a white powder with encapsulated essential oils released gradually. It is used for broilers and ducks, in cattle housing and for calves.
  • Horses: litter conditioner for stables, 2–3 kg per box, then 1 kg two to three times a week.

Litter and feet

Footpad dermatitis in broilers: what the litter has to do with it

Footpad dermatitis is a lesion on the sole of the foot in broilers and turkeys. It is scored at slaughter, and processors follow the footpad dermatitis score closely, for animal welfare as well as for the value of the feet.

Its first known factor is litter moisture: litter that cakes under the water lines keeps the feet in contact with wet, loaded material. Diet, stocking density, ventilation and drinker settings also play a part.

Keeping the litter dry is therefore one of the management levers, and Linkadry is used within that programme: it works on litter moisture, not on the lesion. An established lesion is a matter for the veterinarian.

How to use

Spread where moisture builds up

Spread by hand or with a spreader, in a thin, even layer, where moisture builds up: under the water lines, in lying areas, behind the sow. In cattle housing, after cleaning out and before bedding. Repeat according to the state of the litter through the flock.

Linkadry belongs to our house hygiene range. On the feed side, Linkamo brings Yucca schidigera extract into the ration. Between flocks, the house and the water line are prepared separately: see the water line between two flocks.

  • Storage: 36 months, cool, dry and away from light, bag closed.

Frequently asked questions

How much Linkadry should be spread?

It depends on species, type of litter and season: the table gives the reference rates, for example 40 g/m² twice a week for broilers. We fine-tune them with you.

What is a poultry litter conditioner, and is Linkadry a disinfectant?

A litter conditioner, or litter amendment, is spread on the litter to keep it drier and hold its odour. Linkadry is one: it is not a disinfectant. Cleaning and disinfecting the house between flocks remain a separate operation.

Can Linkadry be used for horses?

Yes, as a bedding conditioner in stables: 2–3 kg per box, then 1 kg two to three times a week, adjusted to the bedding and how often it is mucked out.
